I think it’s a little ironic that my first restaurant posting comes from St. Charles, since I am located nowhere near St. Charles. But, as luck would have it, I was in the area running some errands and my coffee cravings were starting to kick in. Enter, sucrose.

This is a locally owned, locally run European style bakery. And it is my new favorite. Unassuming from the outside, but as you walk in, you’re immediately drawn to two large display cases filled with every pastry you could imagine.

Various tarts, mini cakes, macarons, macaroons, cookies, brownies, muffins–you get the idea.

Supplied by local (and amazing) Blueprint Coffee, it’s the perfect place to get a jolt of energy, either to-go or sitting down with friends in the sweet red-accented sitting room adjacent to the bakery section. You can also pick up an assortment of coffees, merch, or local goodies from their little shop selection. It’s never too early for Christmas shopping, right?

If you’re overwhelmed by the selection and don’t know what to choose, or have questions regarding allergies, the staff are lovely and more than happy to chat with you and explain what’s on offer. As with almost any bakery, I’d recommend popping by in the morning, to maximize deliciousness.
Photos were taken with my phone, so I apologize for the quality. I guess that just means I’ll have to go back, right? Due diligence and all. You should go check it out too. Links have been supplied in the text to each business’s website!
